review

This review will consist of the following.
Layout of the above image.
Evaluation of the image above.
Evaluation of two other images from the exhibition.
The themes and ideas from the exhibition.
The quality and overall professionalism of the digital prints.

First of all this image, from a distance, looked dull and saddening and then the image started to come to life in its own way. The creator of this image had the idea to make the image look powerful in a saddening way as the model looks vulnerable and distraught. The creator of the piece made a very imaginative image by successfully using make-up on the models face and how the dark coloured jacket adds to the effect.

This image conveys a lot of depressing emotions when you can look at this. The creator shows sadness, depression, vulnerability and dark times. But at the same time the image also shows hope and ascension. Where the creator could have improved on this image is to make all of the model visible because if you can see on the left hand side of the image it looks like the model starts disappearing. This is the only negative of this image. Also on my final image the model is wearing a white t-shirt and he photographer gave her a navy blue grain jacket to add to the effect of tragedy. The photographer has also put the filter of black and white on to this image because it makes the white t-shirt stand out and gives emphasis onto the bracelets on her arm. The disappearing effect on the model has the disadvantage of not showing all of the model. It also has an advantage because it adds to more off the effect like "whats behind her?" in all fairness the photographer has done a fantastic job on his image but their are minor things to point out that could have made the image perfect.

Images have been chosen and this will show the difference in other photographers ideas and imagination. in the first image (right) you can already see a huge difference in the two images. this image shows joy, happiness and peace as you can see the photographer has kept the image coloured raw and it has turned out really well. If there was something to change about this image I would have used a different coloured background as purple still shows as an emotional colour. The photographer should have used a yellow background to add to the effect of peace and colour can really impact an image but otherwise this is a good and strong image. The second image (left) is a little harder to evaluate on as this is one of the best images produced at the exhibition. They have combined the background colour with the foreground colour on the hand which is gold. They have also added a radius effect to the image centering around the bottom left and gradually getting darker as it expands. The only i will say about this to improve on the image is to dial down the light reflection on the hand because using reflective paint like this can be risky but regardless the image has turned out well.

In conclusion to this all the images at the exhibition turned out to be outstanding and all the photographers had enjoyed themselves in creating their images and the exhibition itself. The quality of all the images has been spectacular and all of the images were taken and edited at a professional level which most if not all people were pleased about.

research

i am going to be researching some other portrait photographers
Anders Petersen
Anders petersens work is rather unique as mainly all of the photos he uploads are all in black and white and that his photos mainly consist of people having a good time or having a party. this is just one example of his work. The lighting in this photograph shows that is aimed at the model from above the photographer. The aperture as well is really strong as it blurs past the models shoulders and is hard to make out what is in the background. The frame itself is in the perfect place as the expression of the model shows what the image beholds.
this is just one of many examples of this photographers

Diane arbus
Diane arbus is a very famous photographer and one of her most famous pictures is that of the twins which you may have seen. Diane arbus likes to work in filtered images as well but her images always look saddening and depressive. Here is an example of her work. The lighting in this image suggests that the light source is aimed at the model again from above the photographer  because the shadows suggest that. Cropping out the top of the image does not matter to much as most of the quality is focused on the face of the model.
this image shows that age can make a difference on what your face can tell others.

Irving Penn

Irving penn is another famous photographer who does most of his imagery in black and white. Irving penns style of photography is where the model is always on an angle and looking either away or toward the camera. Here is some of Irving pens work. the model had a reflector on their right hand side but pointing down towards the model

The background of this image really effects the outcome.

Roger Ballen
roger ballen has some very interesting work as again all of his pictures are in black and white. roger ballen has worked with a band called die antwood and most of his pictures consist of pictures of die antwood and here is a picture of one of then lead singers.
this image is taken in water to give a reflected light background

Larry clark
Larry clark is a rather unique and explicit photos who's work i am not going to show. This style of photography is and can be frowned upon as most of his models are nude but he is a very successful

research model

I have the idea of making the model which is Sarah Alyce (right) to make the scene of a tragedy
unfolding. To create the effect of sadness i wanted to put mascara coming down her face to make it look as if she is crying. I wanted to, in a way, recreate this image (left) in my own kind of style. this kind of image wouldn't be to hard to recreate but it all depends on how the make-up looks on the model. I will need to use mascara to create thew crying effect on the model and i will also include a dark navy blue jacket to have around her shoulders to create the effect of a tragedy having taken place.

final shoot

For my final shoot i have decided to set the tone of a post apocalyptic scene in the future. I have brought in a few props for the model to use for the shoot. I have brought in a baggy dark blue jacket for her to put around her shoulders. I have also brought in a blunted small sword for her to hold as if she is defending herself. Also i wanted to keep the idea from last week of her crying with make-up as if she doesn't want to be there

These are the two final images i will be using for the exhibition as these are the two images that i am most happy with. both of these images for me look like she has truly been hurt in her life as if somebody close to her is gone she has nobody else.
These are the two images unedited

in the end and on the day of the shoot i had decided to choose the image on the left and crop the image down to 16" wide and 20" long
the outcome of the picture came out like this
I am really pleased with the outcome of this image as it shows vulnerability in the picture a well as sadness and shows the model being ominous.
